What is Facial Liposuction and Why is it Popular in Korea?

South Korea has been at the forefront of the beauty industry with its innovative procedures of plastic surgery and skincare products gaining international attention. Facial liposuction is one of the many treatments that have gained popularity due to its non-invasive procedure and for those seeking a more sculpted face. In this post, we will discuss the procedure of facial liposuction and explore its widespread appeal in South Korea.

What is Facial Liposuction?

Facial liposuction, also known as facial lipoplasty or accusculpt, is a cosmetic procedure designed to eliminate unwanted pockets of fat from the face and neck. Like body liposuction, the ultimate goal is to remove the fat directly under the skin for a more sculpted appearance. Whereas typical liposuction is commonly used for body contouring, facial liposuction targets the chin, jaws, and chin area. As we age, the fat tends to accumulate in the lower areas of our face, causing a loss of definition under the chin and lower cheeks near the jowls. Exercise and lifting procedures will not help much in these areas. Removing these fat pockets with facial liposuction is the only way to diminish the aging effects and result in a more defined and harmonious facial appearance.

How Does Facial Liposuction Work?

Facial Liposuction in Korea usually proceeds with local anesthesia with a small cannula that removes the excess fat from the lower areas of the face. The smaller the area, the smaller the cannula is, which is why facial liposuction is sometimes called “micro-liposuction” or “micro-liposculpture”. Before the surgery, the surgeon will mark the areas of the face where they will remove the fat. After anesthesia is administered, small incisions will be made in the chin area behind the ear where the hairline meets. Then, the cannula will be inserted through the incision and suction out the fats. Finally, the surgeon will close the incision with a small suture or bandage. After the surgery, there can be some bruising and swelling, which will go down gradually. Patients are also required to wear facial compression garments for a few days after the surgery. Remember to follow the postoperative care instructions provided by the surgeon to ensure optimal healing and results.

Liposuction for Double Chin?

The double chin area is a concern for many people as it is one of the most different fats to get rid of. Various factors cause double chin, such as being overweight, health-related issues, genetics, etc. Even naturally thin people can have a double chin due to a lack of muscle density. And age can also contribute to the dull jawline.

Moreover, despite your best efforts of working out and exercising, the double chin fat might not budge! This is where double chin liposuction, or facial liposuction, comes in hand.

Double chin liposuction will permanently remove the face cells and help improve the contour of your face. The results will give you a slim and rejuvenated appearance in a subtle manner, as it can take several months for the skin to tighten.

Say goodbye to your double chin!

Who is a Candidate for Facial Liposuction?

Skin texture and type play a huge part in facial liposuction. Some people have high elasticity, and some have loose, saggy skin. Patients with good elasticity will have their skin tightened and fixed well to their face following the fat removal. However, individuals with thin and low elasticity can have loose skin after fat removal.

It is also important to note that not everyone needs facial liposuction. Some people have heaviness on the lower face and neck, but it is more of a structural issue than having to do with fat. Doctors will not be able to remove the muscle or skin through liposuction. Therefore, the facial liposuction is best suited for individuals on the younger side.

Submentoplasty vs. Double Chin Liposuction

As we age, our skin begins to sag, facial muscles weaken, and fat starts to gather in certain areas of our faces. With submentoplasty, also known as platysmaplasty, the surgeon will eliminate the submental fat (double chin) located both above and below the platysma muscle. A minimal incision is made directly through the platysma muscle, and then the surgeon will tighten it like a corset, securing it to your hyoid bone. This anti-aging technique achieves the slimmest jawline with a sharp chin. Submentoplasty helps define your chin, neck, and jawline for a shaper profile.

Why is Facial Liposuction Popular in South Korea?

The ideal Korean beauty standard is characterized by a V-line/V-shaped face with a defined jawline and slim cheeks. Having a symmetrical and harmonious face is highly emphasized in Korean culture because it is seen as more feminine and youthful. Korea puts high pressure on beauty and, therefore, views plastic surgery as a means of boosting self-confidence. Also, as the demand for cosmetic procedures increases, Korea’s technological advances in plastic surgery increase.

Advancements in cosmetic surgery techniques have made facial liposuction or accusculpt less invasive and more accessible. Korean plastic surgeons have developed innovative approaches to minimize scarring and maximize the results. Many plastic surgeons in Korea are renowned for their skin in producing natural-looking results. They prioritize enhancing a patient’s existing features rather than aiming for drastic transformations, which result in a more refined appearance while maintaining the patient’s unique characteristics.

Accusculpt can define the lower areas of the face and give a more sculpted appearance. As stated above, facial liposuction will not improve the muscle or skin, so after the removal of fat, complimentary facial procedures may be necessary. Everyone has different skin types and textures, so it is important to consult with a doctor before considering facial liposuction.
